Week 3: Forreston vs Amboy
On a brisk Friday night the Amboy Clippers played host to Forreston in a week 3 contest at The Harbor.
Amboy looked to have some momentum early behind some steady running on the legs of Sean Fitzpatrick. Moving the ball to the Forreston 31 yard line would end the pursuit as Forreston forced a turnover on downs.
The Cards would take about 3 minutes to trek 69 yards on runs by Braden Politsch, Jordan Neuschwander, and Matt Beltran. Getting down to the Clipper 10 yard line Beltran would punch it in on a dive off the left guard with 3:40 to go in the 1st quarter.
Amboy would go on another drive relying on Fitzpatrick and mixing in runs from Joe Quest and a QB keeper by Lane Boehle. They would get to the Forreston 16 yard line before getting turned away. Forreston would go back on the drive to change field position, but we're stopped at the Amboy 19 yard line.
Forreston would force a fumble on Jordan Gulley and recover the ball at the Amboy 33 yard line. Jordan Neuschwander would capitalize a minute later on a 3 yard run. The Devonte King-Black 2 point conversion was good to extend Forreston's lead to 16-0 headed to the half.
On the first play in the 3rd quarter Neuschwander would rip off a 60 yard TD on a sweep to the right.
Forcing a quick Amboy punt, the Cards were back running adding carries from Smith-Black, Cayden Shelton, and Ashton Schramm. At the 9:00 mark it was Neuschwander who would get his 3rd TD of the night on a 13 yard run to make the score 32-0 in favor of Forreston.
Amboy would get on the board with 6 seconds remaining in the 3rd quarter on a Boehle keeper up the middle to cut the lead to 32-6.
In the 4th quarter Schramm would put 6 more on the board for Forreston with 9:00 left in the game, but that would end the scoring on the night as Forreston cruised to a 38-6 win.
The Cards were led by Jordan Neuschwander who had 11 attempts for 188 yards and 3 TD's. Braden Politsch had a good complimentary performance with 9 attempts for 72 yards. Ashton Schramm would rush for 52 yards on the night and Devonte King-Black added another 66 yards.
Amboy was led by Sean Fitzpatrick who had 26 attempts for 118 yards. The Clippers got 40 yards on the ground from Joe Quest.
Forreston (1-1) goes back on the road to play Rockford Christian (0-2) next week.
Amboy (0-2) will stay at home and play host to West Carroll (0-1).
