Week 5 | Milledgeville vs Orangeville
Orangeville -
Our Upstate Game of the Week featured the battle of the Ville's, with Orangeville playing host Milledgeville. Leading up to the game, a lot of people put their bet on Milledgeville to win big, but Orangeville wanted to prove how much they have progressed, and had a game plan in place to limit the Missiles firepower.
Milledgeville opened the game up with the ball, and began their drive from their own 40 yard line. Distributing the ball between Carson Boyer, Jack Munz, and Cayde Gusloff, before Gusloff found pay dirt from a yard out, and Milledgeville was up 6-0 after a failed 2 point try.
On the first offensive play of the game for Orangeville, they would immediately fumble and give the ball right back, however their defense would come up big, and force a turnover on downs. On the very next play, Carter Kleckler dropped back and found Garret Rodebaugh streaking across the middle of the field for a 59 yard TD pass. The 2 point try was good, and Orangeville had the lead 8-6, and they would carry it into the 2nd quarter.
At the start of the 2nd quarter, Milledgeville would regain the lead, taking advantage of short field position as they began their drive from the Orangeville 27 yard line. Milledgeville QB Jack Munz would bobble the snap, but no need to worry as he picked it up and plunged in from 2 yards out, which gave Milledgeville a 14-8 lead.
Unable to move the ball, the Broncos were forced to punt again. This time the Missiles would start from their own 25 yard line, and after a heavy dose of Gusloff and Munz, the Missiles would give Nate Rahn a 2 yard TD run, increasing their lead to 20-8 to enter halftime.
The second half would be a battle, as both teams just kept battling in a heavyweight fight. At the end of the 3rd quarter, Orangeville would block a punt, courteous of Zach Baker, to give them a 1st and goal from the 7 yard line. Just as the 4th quarter started, Rodebaugh would punch it in from 3 yards out, but after the failed 2 point try, Orangeville was down just 20-14 with 11:03 to go in the game.
The Broncos would force Milledgeville into a quick 3 and out series, and regain possession with 9:02 left in the game. A little over a minute later, however, the Broncos couldn't get past midfield, and were forced to punt with 7:29 left in the game. It would be the last time the Broncos had the ball, as Milledgeville chewed up the final 7:29 to close the door on a 20-14 victory.
